Hi the last few days we have decided to buy a caravan . All the dealerships are closed because of Christmas.
so we have narrowed it down to
a swift basecamp
a swift compact
or a swift elegance
has anyone got any advice?? Please

You must see every appliance working.
Look on You tube so you know how to check for damp
Have a towing driving lesson as some people don't like towing
Check your car recovery, insurance etc is covered for towing
Check towing weight of your car.
We bought a cheap one for £100 ( 20 years ago) Fixed it up a bit did a few trips over the winter, kids loved it then we bought a better one
We have had several over the years and a few motor homes, the kids still talk of the camping adventures we did on the cheap in the £100 caravan!

We bought an Adria Action last year. Absolutely love it. We had a look at the Basecamp but were put off when the table fell off the wall (new caravan) as we viewed it.

Thanks for the replys. we have previously had caravans. But not for ten years as the teenagers completely refused to come.
We are now in a position, just the two of us.
We would have to change the car, back to a tank!
The Adria Action looks great. Iv Just looked a the practical caravan review. The windows are brilliant.
My Mum has a Basecamp. She got it just as covid hit, and it was in a garage for 18 months. She started using it last summer and it looks really funky. And so far so good.

We bought an Elddis Avante 454 in November 2019. We wanted it because it seems to be the only two berth with a fixed bed. We have been away for 262 nights so far as Covid stopped us getting away at times.
We love the caravan.

If you like the Basecamp you’d probably like the Knaus Sport and Fun. I said this would be our next caravan but our current one is still going strong.

There’s a caravan show coming up soon - might be worth going for a look

I was reading up on BaseCamps last night and they're supposed to be very light so most cars can tow them. I personally fancy a Freedom Microlight Bijoux or the current model which can be towed by a Baby Fiat if you choose! 2 berth has loo, 3 berth does not.

Just an update - We have gone for it.
Omg we went to the Caravan Show in Manchester a couple of weeks ago. and ordered a Swift Major 4 sb.
Its 7.5 Meters. Just in the process of buying a car big enough to tow it.
Exciting, feel like this is something Iv waited my whole life for.

Everythings always been second hand.

@cutecockerpoo12 - good for you. We spent yesterday looking/booking caravan sites for this year. We’ve even booked sites in Holland, Germany and France in October (we have to be in Europe in October to get ddogs rabies booster - bloody Brexit)!!! Hope you enjoy your new caravan xxx

Great get your trips booked
This is an ideal first stop, very clean, great value, tranquil but a short drive from the A 55 and great base for seeing North Wales

We were in a similar position, 2 teens not wanting to come away with us anymore. We did a huge amount of research and in the end last spring ended up buying a Trigano Mini 290 and also a new car:

www.threeshiresleisure.co.uk/new-trigano-caravans/

It was the first time towing for DH, but my ex and I had a one for a couple of years when the kids were little.

We had a fab 3 week trip around the UK last Summer when my teens were with their dad and have more trips planned for this year.

Our reason for going for this model was that we could fit it in our garage. It is really compact and light to tow, but still has a proper washroom with toilet/sink/shower attachment, a decent sized fridge and a 2 ring hob. Really we have everything we need in a tiny package.

Good luck with your adventures this year.
