Hello, we're quite new to camping but looking to go on a few short breaks next year so looking for some ideas please. We'd like to go away in the summer holidays for 4 nights. We're looking to travel up to 3 hours from Leeds. Requirements would be a site that has stuff for the kids, maybe a park or similar. We'd like an area that has plenty to do nearby for an 8 and 4 year old- beach would be great but not a deal breaker. If you could guarantee some sun too that would be perfect 😁

Beach and greatest chance of sun try Whitby /Scarborough way?

Loads of campsites round there - we always stayed in the smaller sites and did day trips so I can't help recommend a lively site - but there were always space and kids to play with and quieter means often easier to get kids to sleep

Peasholm park, the steam train , castle , beaches and more beaches

Thanks, we've done Scarborough/Filey a lot! It's our nearest seaside so have been doing day trips for years there so was hoping for somewhere a bit different, maybe a bit further south - my knowledge of anywhere south is sadly lacking though!

If you want best chance of dry then you head east

But heading south 3 hrs from Leeds on the east side - you don't have enough time to hit the north Norfolk coast

West into wales could be good but much more likely to hit rain - if you can decide at the last minute which way to head then fine but if you need to set a plan then it's more risky

Manor Farm in Norfolk, if it’s not too far. Or Haw Wood Farm near Southwold.

midgetastic · 27/12/2022 11:53

Southwold is probably 5 hrs from Leeds

Wales could work. I do want to try out Zip words which I think is north. Always a bit of a gamble with the weather in the UK anyway!

Anglesey sounds perfect to me. Lots of beaches and things to visit like Plas Newydd and Caernarfon Castle.

Walesby Forest. Its a Scout campsite that does public camping and activity passes to access stuff like the climbing walls, watersports, archery etc. Not far from Leeds (just off the A1 around Retford... Sherwood forest area)

It’s a 3hr 20 from Leeds but Kelling Heath is a great campsite, loads of activities for the kids to do, steam train stops at the edge of the site, music, indoor pool and a short drive from the beach.
if that’s too far then I second fisherground- amazing site for kids

Thank you for all the suggestions. I think we've settled on Anglesey for the summer, it's near enough to Zip World which is somewhere I've wanted to go for ages!
I like the look of the Retford one too which we might be able to do on a long weekend as it's not that far.
