here

I have only stayed at Low Wray (about 10 minutes round the lake from Ambleside. It was quiet and clean.

There is a nice site at Hawkshead too.

HTH

Glad to be of help. I don't want to appear patronising, but I LOVE that area and Hawkshead village, Tarn Hows & Keswick are all worth a visit, if you don't know the area.

I am .

Enjoy

we do know the area a little we need to be at Ambleside to be near very rich friends that have asked us to go on holiday with them but we just cannot afford to have the same accomodation as them ime talking just short of 500pounds for three nights so i said we would camp as close as possible so the kids an all run around and have a adventure ime sure that when their children see our wonderfull tent they will be green with envy we are hoping to go in july so finges crossed it should be decent weather

hope you have a lovely time. we lived there for a while but it was too expensive for us long-term.

Luckily the most beautiful bits are free

Second the recommendation for Low Wray! We went a few years ago, and got to camp right by the water's edge. We had a pair of friendly ducks sharing our sarnies

looks good!

What about Youth Hostelling instead? Just a suggestion-can be as cheap as camping aswell. There's a youth hostel in ambleside itself.

Remotew · 06/02/2008 11:31

The youth hostel is right on Lake Windermere edge at Waterhead. If its camping you want Low Wray is the nearest. Have a lovely time, I live in the area.
