Tell me all you know about Harris & Lewis, please.

Two dogs, two adults, one tent.

I've just discovered Ben Fogle's Scotland's Sacred Islands. I've only ever been as far as the Knapdale Peninsula (from NW England)

Thank you.

Gorgeous!
But... midges

hellmannsnotheinz · 07/08/2022 21:42

You will need repellent

The beaches are breathtaking- white sands and crystal blue water really gorgeous

Wildlife is also amazing and it doesn't get fully dark in the summer

I found Lewis a bit bleak, but Harris was amazing. I went in a campervan though but so many beautiful spots. genuinely reminded me of Australia and New Zealand with some of the views.

Stornaway is the main town and source of pubs/shops etc. otherwise if you're away from that it's mainly good for walking and exploring - I imagined there would be cosy pubs for a bit of nightlife but wasn't fortunate enough to find any (maybe I just didn't look in the right parts)

Sorry that's just Lewis I didn't see Harris

Glorious. Seabirds. Seals. Whales. Yeah and midges, but not as bad as on Benbecula or the Uists.

White beaches down the West coast. Calanish (sp?). Amazing open spaces.

If there is a chance of a trip to St Kilda do it.

Ah, thank you for such quick replies. Probably not until next Summer so lots to go on here.

We wild camped on Harris many moons ago. Gorgeous beaches. It was fairly windy so helped keep the midgies down.

we sat our one evening last August because of the midges, just as bad in the day if there's no wind, Stunning place though.
