For a caravan?

Going for work and I would rather camp

Is Hartshorne park good?

I'm struggling to work out - it seems very close

I’ve never actually stayed at the caravan site but I think it generally gets good reviews. The park it’s attached to is nice and the site looks spacious.

QuebecBagnet · 07/08/2022 07:21

And yes, it’s very close to central lincoln. You’d be able to get a bus to the town centre if needed.

KatyMac · 07/08/2022 08:05

Aw thanks @QuebecBagnet I'm hoping to cycle!

I'll have to drive on day one and the last day with all my stuff but then it's easier

I wonder if I should book parking somewhere

@KatyMac whereabouts are you wanting to cycle to? Only ask because of the aptly named Steep Hill…

QuebecBagnet · 07/08/2022 08:25

I can’t imagine any of the central car parks being full.

QuebecBagnet · 07/08/2022 08:26

And yes theres a cycle path into Lincoln along tritton rd and I think along skellingthorpe rd

KatyMac · 07/08/2022 13:45

@Sunbird24 Steep Hill sound scary!! But I have an electric bike - I'm off the the Casrle Grounds

Cycling is more of a lifestyle choice I guess @QuebecBagnet if it's practical I will cycle

Steep Hill is too steep to cycle but there are ways around it .

KatyMac · 07/08/2022 14:28

The blue route says moderate hill and the gray route days steep hill

Will I be ok on the blue?

You might manage Lindum Hill (assuming that is the alternative) but it only takes a few minutes to walk up and push your bicycle - steep hill wouldn't recommend pushing your bike up either if you are not familiar with it!

There are a couple of car parks near the castle you could use, unlikely to be full.

I'm not sure if the castle has any secure bicycle racks you could use, the other building in the grounds does not have any outside. There is a secure bicycle store at the train station but you would then need to either walk up or take the walk and ride bus.

You’re not allowed to cycle up Steep hill. You can cycle up Michaelgate which is to the side of it and cobbled. No traffic. I can just manage it on a non electric bike so you’d be fine on an electric bike. Lindum hill would also be ok but busy with traffic, however the pavement is wide and not many people so I’d go on the pavement,

QuebecBagnet · 07/08/2022 16:23

Sorry didn’t mean to quote anyone!

QuebecBagnet · 07/08/2022 16:25

But wouldnt lock an electric bike up anywhere in Lincoln apart from possibly the secure bike lock up at the train station. Loads of bike thieves. You could then walk up steep hill to the castle.

Sunbird24 · 07/08/2022 16:29

There’s Langdale Lakes to the northeast of Lincoln, which would take Steep Hill out of the equation, but it’s probably still further than Hartsholme Park

User12398712 · 07/08/2022 16:38

Camper UK at Swinethorpe is lovely and to get to Lincoln, there is a cycle track down an old railway track although I'm not quite sure whether you would still need to go up a big hill to get to the castle area.

KatyMac · 07/08/2022 20:11

My bike will be locked to my gazebo/stall in the castle grounds where I'll be selling so I hope I'll be OK

I'll look at both of those alternatives if the campsite is full - one is further but flatter!

You guys have all been amazing with info that really helps make it easier for me - thank you

😂 I wondered if it was for the steampunk festival - it’s too early to be asking about the Christmas market!

Binglebong · 09/08/2022 16:44

I'll be keeping a look out in the castle!
