Do I need another layer under a SIM?

Or will it be okay just to put the SIM directly on the groundsheet? I used a blanket under my SIM recently, and DS used on of those roll up foam mats with silver on one side under his SIM. I'm just trying to think of what I could possibly not take camping next time 😄.

You don’t need to put anything under them, I never have, though I’ve seen people saying it’s warmer if you do.

Thanks - I can be a bit cold sometimes. I suppose I just need to try it both with and without.

I put mine directly on the floor and am fine. SIMs provide good insulation because if the foam inside.

Never have, although we use a tent footprint under the groundsheet (like a thick, loose groundsheet to protect the groundsheet from damage really).

I have a footprint followed by the groundsheet, then a foil backed picnic blanket before the SIM.

Thanks everyone - I'll have a think about how much room I have.

I had my 10cm SIM directly on the floor of the tent a couple of weeks ago and it was toasty warm.
