Campsite Recommendations

I know its only just January but we have just bought a new tent in the sales and I'm getting excited about camping this summer!

We have two DSs 4 and 2 but would prefer quieter sites rather than the all in holiday park type. Dorset is looking good as kids love the beach. We love Hollands Wood in the New Forest and really enjoyed Christchurch in the Forest of Dean so are looking for something along those lines. Any ideas?

TIA

Meant to add- need places with fairly large pitches as we have bought an Outwell Hartford XXL, which is about 7x6m.

have no advice as we are up north, although will look in one of my books for you but we are also on a camping countdown.

SugaryBits · 02/01/2008 21:21

We don't mind travelling up North! Would be nice to go a bit further a field. Where would you recommend?

Banham C&CC park, Diss, Norfolk - right next to Banham zoo - listen to the tigers at night! It's great, quiet site, immaculate, we loved it. Pay once to go in Banham zoo and visit as many times as you like whilst you're there.

If it's Dorset that you're after then Wood Farm at Charmouth is lovely - I much prefer the Lyme Regis area of Dorset to the Purbeck end in terms of it being quieter.

How far up north do you want to come? cos it's colder up here you know!

How about Devon - Totnes area? I know of the best campsite there!

SugaryBits · 02/01/2008 21:29

The Banham zoo one looks good.

We went to Devon for the first time in the summer and loved it so do tell!

Not sure whether I should tell

ok then it's Dornafield and while their website isn't up to much, check out the reviews on UK Camping! (including mine!)

It's perfectly set inbetween Dartmoor and the coast!

twinsetandpearls · 02/01/2008 21:40

We tend to use the NT trusts ones we like Great Langadle and Wastawater, both in the Lakes.

SugaryBits · 02/01/2008 21:44

Oooh I like the look of Dornafield and I love the prices! Everything I have been looking at up until now has been around £ 25 per night.

It's probably because it doesn't have a pool or a bar and it's inland that it's cheaper!

but that's how we like our camping

we're going again at Whit.

Lucycat · 02/01/2008 21:50

btw there's a picture of our tent at Dornafield last August.

another 5* star site in the area is Ross Park.

Lucycat · 02/01/2008 21:51

.....on my profile duurr forgot to post that bit

SugaryBits · 02/01/2008 21:52

That one is definitely on the list! Just trying to work out which sites when!

Off to bed now, thanks for all the help, will check the thread in the morning in case anyone has any more ideas!

no worries, never happier than when City win away and I can chat camping

Welcome to the Outwell owners club btw

Also down in Devon, near Totnes, the River Dart Country Park is fab for camping. Great streams and play areas for kids.
