Alsace region- Colmar etc where else to add to roadtrip?

After several years of UK camping, we are tentatively Wink thinking of going abroad next summer again. Want to explore a new area and are thinking about the Alsace region perhaps for a week.

However, we will have more time than a week, so was wondering about other areas to add onto this area to make a roadtrip. We will be using Calais/Dunkirk, could possibly use Hook of Holland one way.

Have discounted the Loire and anything much further south than Dijon because of the add on to the drive. Considering Burgundy, we have visited Guedelon before but will need things for teenagers to get excited about (wine is not one of their highlights! Grin ). Like the look of a site near the Morvan regional park.

Or, we could go Western Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium?

Any recommendations for good bases to visit attractions or campsites? Our ideal sites tend to be smaller than 250 pitches, a pool is always welcome, fresh bread/shop nearby, onsite food a bonus.

We spent a week doing Strasbourg (stayed at Camping de Strasbourg, walkable into the town) and into Freiburg, which is a lovely town. Stayed at Camping Hirzberg which is also walkable into the town, and a lovely little site but no pool. I wanted to do Colmar but DH was pretty little towned out.
Also stayed at a lovely site on a lake on the journey back, camping les Jonquilles, at Xonrupt Longemer. We stopped at a municipal site in Metz on the way down.
This was all in a Motorhome though.

We had a lovely fortnight in that area a few years ago. We stayed at Domaine des Bans. We went to Freiberg in Germany for the day and did day trips to Colmar, Mulhouse, Garardmer (swimming lake). I seem to remember a nice small campsite next to Longmer lake (near Gerardmer). We went swimming there. The Alsace wine route is lovely - lots of lovely villages. We have also camped in the Belgian Ardennes region which might be en route. Camping Maka looks really nice and small although we didn't stay there. We stayed at Camping La Clusure which had a shallow river for kids to play in . Have a fab trip!!!!

Profpoopsnagel- we are thinking of similar trip! But you probably have more knowledge we just at the idea stage ! Would love to hear more if you make more plans!

@Mossiebonbon sadly I am still at the ideas stage! Really not sure what to do at the moment, basically waiting to see how the next couple of months pan out for travelling abroad.

Thanks to all for the ideas, I have checked them all out and made notes! Smile The trip might be this year... or next but I definitely want to go. I know DH and DD will love Europa park, I and DS are a little more tame!
