We’ve just invested in a tent to do long weekends away with our 2 DD’s. So far we’ve got a tent & 2 sleeping bags. We’ve been looking at various self inflating sleeping mats but want to know if people recommend any particular ones?

I can't remember what brand of sim I have, but I recommend putting on top of a camp bed - much warmer.

We have these outwell dreamcatcher and they are very comfortable. One sprung a leak this year after 6 years of sporadic use and storage (unrolled) in a drafty attic. We simply replaced it with the same.
They aren't the smallest when they are rolled but if you have the space they are very comfy.

thermarest. not cheap but mine is 20+ years and still going strong.

they don't look like much but make a big difference in keeping you warm and comfortable

Therm-a-rest are worth the investment definitely!

Thermarest are market leaders but have a look at Alpkit website - they do really good equipment at good prices - and are a UK company with a great effort towards sustainability - and they are really helpful! No I don't work for them lol!

Our kids were fine on Lidl / Aldi SIMS: kids don’t weigh a lot so don’t need such thick mats.

We have been fine with Vango and Outwell 7.5Cm SIMS.

SIMs’ layer of foam insulates from ground cold.

I've got a thermarest for backpacking but for car camping the decathlon one is way more comfortable.
