Why do British caravans always have a big oven/grill/hob like you have at home?

And Continental ones have a couple of gas burners and a massive fridge? Much better idea I think. Does anyone actually use an oven when on caravan holidays?

I do, pizzas are perfect for caravan holidays. I wouldn’t do a full roast though

Chicchicchicchiclana · 10/09/2021 16:25

Niche.

But to answer your question ... pizza?

Campervan69 · 10/09/2021 16:26

Yes we do all the time - pizzas mainly but also to precook barbeque food as I am paranoid about food poisoning.

So we use our oven a lot.

My caravanning staple is a bag of ice for my G&T so a big fridge again is perfect for us.

I used my oven a lot. Pizzas , oven chips etc

FleetwoodRaincoat · 10/09/2021 16:37

Ok, hadn't considered pizza as we don't often eat it. Nor oven chips. I was thinking it was there for a "Sunday roast" type dinner, or for baking!

I've beenbin several Eurocamps holidays in France and they have an oven and full sized fridge/freezer. If it can fit in the space then why not?

Mintjulia · 10/09/2021 19:24

Given British weather, relying on a barbecue is optimistic to say the least?

coldwarenigma · 10/09/2021 19:25

Currently baking Cornish pasties in our caravan oven. I think continental vans rely more on BBQ and outdoor cooking with the expectations of outdoor weather. British vans manufacturers know we will be holed up inside due to rubbish weather..more use in poorer weather

Yes. Why wouldn’t you?

Pizza
Just store stuff in side it if you dont use it

LostArcher · 16/09/2021 19:02

Oven chips. Also we go to Cook and get frozen posh ready meals so not as expensive as eating out but I don't have to keep cooking.

Augusta1 · 16/09/2021 19:07

We often do traybakes in ours. I’d miss it if we didn’t have it.

Hellocatshome · 16/09/2021 19:13

The only time my parents ever let us eat chips every day was in the caravan. Nuggets and chips, fish fingers and chips, sausage and chips etc etc, I think ot was so we didn't pester them for food from the chip van everyday.

iklboo · 16/09/2021 19:14

My folks' favourite Caravan Tea (it demanded capitals) was sausages, oven chips & a garlic baguette.

ArblemarchTFruitbat · 16/09/2021 19:18

A wild guess would be that in continental Europe it's more likely to be barbecue/picnic weather in the summer. The full indoor cooking facilities are for when it pisses it down every day on your UK holiday.

Fridge in our caravan is bigger than the one in the house!
