My tent bargain.

I popped into local charity shop earlier and bought a tent on a whim. It's been years since we have camped in a tent but thought we might as well give it another go.
I've just got DS to help me pitch it and it is absolutely gorgeous, still has all the purchase tags attached, so it's obviously not well used.
It's an Outwell Kansas5.
I'm made up with myself.
Point me to the sea Grin

Brilliant.
I have a tent of a similar size and it's perfect for a proper holiday.

Thank you! I'm quickly discovering that I might have to spend more though!! I'm going to do an inventory of what equipment we have and what we will need to buy. We do have sleeping bags and cooking kits from caravanning days, I will definitely need a mallet!

Im dreadful for just pushing pegs in with my boot heel. Doesn't work on rock pegs or delta pegs though!

Wow. Outwell is a really good make. Wonder why the donor didn't sell it. Only slightly jealous.😉

I gave them more than they were asking for it, they only wanted £15 and I paid twice that, bit of a small gamble, as it could have had a big cut in it or no tent poles I guess. As it turns out it's completely perfect.
I do well in charity shops, I once got a Ted Baker tweed jacket (current season) for DS, for £1.50, I gave them many times that.
We are trialling it this weekend, just in the garden as DH doesn't want to miss the Euros.

Is it waterproof?

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 17/06/2021 20:22

If it is genuine Outwell I sincerely hope so.

Biking0077 · 17/06/2021 20:26

Sounds like a fab bargain. We’ve still got a 10yr old outwell tent they are well made. The only thing we’ve replaced is one of the poles that snapped.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 17/06/2021 20:50

I could only aspire to an Outwell. We used to go to Winfield's in Hull just to look at tents (sad I know). We had a Gelert, then a Vango.

Funf · 18/06/2021 20:41

Well done I hope you have a great time

HelplessProcrastinator · 19/06/2021 15:21

That is a fantastic bargain for an Outwell. Excellent tents. Have fun with it.

GentlemanBurglar · 19/06/2021 15:25

I once picked one up on freecycle - it wasn't a famous brand but a good size and very simple to pitch - the person who was giving it away said they had spent one weekend in it - their first ever under canvas, and it had rained so much they never wanted to camp again! The tent has been packed up for a few weeks and was still full of mud and damp grass but we pitched it outside on a sunny day, gave it a good clean and let it air and dry off properly, and have since used it loads. Their loss, our gain.

We have a 'things' library near us and you can borrow loads of camping stuff. Don't have to buy all of it.

ALDI and LIDL have camping gear in at the moment, so might be worth popping to a local branch for things like mallets/chairs etc.

I might have a look as well.

Well done on the bargain OP Smile
