I'm a single parent and will be camping with my 2 young DC. Just wondering what to do about a toilet. There will be facilities on the sites well be going too, but thinking more for late night wees when the children are in bed.

Any cheap and cheerful suggestions?

I like a fridge door clip lid jug for me (if I'm on my own) and a cheap bucket/lid camping loo thing for the kids. I'll try and find it)

I haven’t done this but apparently adding cat litter helps.

You can get camping bucket toilets that have a proper seat and disposable liners
Or just use a bucket with a lid and something in it to soak up do you don't have spills

@QueSeraSarah that looks great thank you!

Are they too old to use a potty if nobody's watching? There are loads of free ones on my local Facebook.

Theyre not, its more me I'm worried about! I will need at least a couple of wees while they're asleep

Cat litter is for poos. If it's just for night time wees, the bucket type with nothing added is fine. Then you can just poor it down the loo. Once you start adding things, you're in all kinds of trouble.

This is brilliant - folds down flat in its own case, sturdier than it looks. It's revolutionised camping for me! www.holydogwater.com/product/B0813G6NHW/

We have this. I put a bin bag inside with a load of wood based cat litter and then put the whole bag in the bin in the morning.
Works very well.

I think I'll try and find a lidded bucket fir our first proper venture, before splashing out (😁) on something more expensive. I've camped quite a bit when I was younger, but this will be solo with children. I think we'll be ok, but we also might hate it!

I've not tried it myself, but I think I read somewhere about putting a sanitary towel in the bucket. Yes, it's easy enough just to pour away, but depending on your tent, if there was a risk of it getting knocked over that would avoid a spillage.

We’ve got this one from go outdoors. I just put a bin bag in it with some cat litter and it lasts for 2-3 nights if it’s just for night wee’s before changing

We always had a wee bucket in the tent as a kid. However as an adult I'm not sure whatever happened to the wee bucket in the morning an I'm too scared to use one as an adult as I feel too embarrassed to carry it around in the morning. We usually go to festivals so never see anyone with a bucket taking it to the portaloos though lol.
