Any good camping forums about? Ones that don't make your eyes bleed when you look at them? Mentioning no names. Wink

This is about the only place I know to talk camping.

U.K. Campsite online? Lots of help and advice, site reviews, and general life out and about using a wide variety of Camping equipment and styles for all budgets and ages.

It has been rather quiet lately due to Covid and most sites closed, but things are picking back up now with sites reopening and restrictions starting to lift. Some good tech guys on there too, should you encounter any problems with your kit!

UKCampsite.co.uk is the one I'm trying to avoid. It looks 20 years old and is painful to read. I have a screen 17 inches wide. That site only displays 6 inches across leaving huge areas of bright egg yellow either side. It's worse than Mumsnet.

Camping People Uk is a good Facebook group with 57k members, lots of tent talk. We are also on many FB Motorhome groups.

UKCampsite is a bit...old school.

But you can change the background colour, at least in the mobile site.

And rely on the advice and information.

Many of the Facebook groups are full of people calling each other 'Hun', starting rows about TV and projector use on site and drenching their tents in harsh cleaning chemicals before obsessively Fabsil-ing them again.

Mysterian · 20/05/2021 14:08

It's just horrible to use, even if the advice is good.

People use projectors? I'm rather old skool. (School). Just give me a tap, flat grass, and a toilet and I'm happy.

It is horrible.

The campsite search list is ridiculous as well - that endless alphabetical list.

And it is full of curmudgeonly old gits.

Yes - taking a projector camping and showing films is a thing now. As is a light up flashing pole 6m tall. Not on any site I use, though - Back to Basics and then Keep Going, for me.

There are some very serious Facebook groups, I joined the Outwell Enthusiasts or something when selling a tent. I wasn't worthy, left quickly. Then you have the lightweight enthusiasts who drill holes in a toothbrush and weigh things in grammes.
You don't often get people talking about the actual camping rather than the gear!

Funf · 25/05/2021 10:28

Notmenono
Some people collect gear others go camping hello
Back to OP I would also suggest Face Book groups.
What did you want to know?

Funf · 25/05/2021 10:28

Sorry should have been a smile!

Mysterian · 25/05/2021 16:41

I've joined Camping People UK on Facebook. Not all exactly my style of camping. It does seem mostly full of the sort of campers who go to a field, cover as much of it as possible, and make the inside indistinguishable from their house. Somebody has just posted asking for washing machine recommendations.

I managed about three days on Camping people UK! They are super friendly and a big group but I don't think I have anything to add to either the brand new camper influx or the furnished home from home people.

I like my camping kit as much as anyone but we have downsized quite a bit and I'm banned from buying anything bigger than a head torch.

BunnyRuddington · 02/06/2021 12:01

I only ever use UKCampsite fir their reviews, if you trek through enough you end up getting a really good picture of what the campsite is like.

Nearly booked one before next weekend in Derbyshire that has 9/10 on there. Loads of rave reviews then one mentioned that a big party had pitched up close to their tent as there were no designated pitches and there were loads of single sex groups causing noise at night. DH would have some serious problems dealing with that so we chose somewhere else instead.
