SIM Recommendations!

First time camping as family of 4.
One kid was fine on a Thermarest Trek lite which had been mine. One kid ended up in with DDad, his mat which had been DHs gone flat and is now binned.

DH and I stupidly bought airbeds thinking they'd be more comfy than the thin SIMs we had. They were freezing cold.

Please recommend me decent SIMs that are warm and comfy?
Don't mind budget if we are going to enjoy camping we have to be warm and comfy.

Outwell Dreamboat and Vango Shangrila are top favoured SIMs but I can't afford such luxury and have this www.winfieldsoutdoors.co.uk/vango-comfort-7-5-single-self-inflating-mat/?gclid=CjwKCAjw_NX7BRA1EiwA2dpg0m1wJYP1GKl9pHJKGvmC_hQHzFWOjRYMwZFELdvckCKrcX8a43QwgBoCx_UQAvD_BwE

Can you go to Decathlon and try some out? The heavier you are the thicker you will feel comfy on.

All SIMS should be petty warm because the foam protects from the cold ground.

I don't find air beds at all comfy but if you liked it for comfort then insulate your airbed. Even layers of cardboard (the kind with a corrugated middle) provide insulation from the cold ground.

We slept on 2.5Cm SIMs from Aldi for years, the kids we re very happy on those.

Thanks I didn't know we could see them in the flesh at Decathlon.
We had a tent carpet under the airbeds but they were absolutely freezing, doesn't helpit was frosty outside when we got up. Chilled to the bone freezing. Yet DS1 who normally feels the cold was warm on the Thermarest sim.
The Comfort vangos were certainly on my radar. One thing we do need to watch for is the space they take up not just for transport but at home too the Shangrilas look massive.

I have a 7.5 cm vango like the one mentioned above, I've had it for years and always had a great night's sleep. Last year I splashed out on a camp bed too (outwell posadas) and together with the SIM it makes a super comfy bed, as good as my home bed, just a bit narrower!

We had a double SIM very early on, before everyone was buying 7 and 10Cms, and it is such a pain to roll up tight and pack.

More modern ones have better valves, but bulk is a factor. I would always go for 2 single rather than a double, to be easier to fit into gaps in the car.

My 7.5Cm is not especially bulky.

A tent carpet will offer minimal insulation, but not like foam. Even the Decathlon foam roll up mats would be better than an uninsulated air bed.

Decathlon also sell an inflatable camp bed that a SIM can go on.

I have a vango SIM, it's fab. Stores like tiso, blacks etc will also have them on display

I’d recommend the Vango ones. Used them for years. Still good.

Thanks for all your thoughts. I'm now completely between the Vango Comfort and the Thermarest Luxury Map.
