Washing a sleeping bag

How can I wash a big sleeping bag, the sort that’s used in a caravan/ motorhome , like a big double duvet that zips up the side, rather than a mummy shaped camping one?
It’s too big & bulky to go in my washing machine, tried, no chance.
It says on the label do not dry clean or tumble dry. There’s no laundrette that may have had a big machine within a hundred miles of our village.
Any suggestions gratefully received.

Never tried myself but soak in a bath with some laundry soap?

We don't have launderettes per se, but we have caravan holiday parks, so I take my duvets there to wash. Do you have any close by?

SoloMummy · 06/09/2020 08:31

Fwiw, for the future, I'd buy a liner, so you can use more before needing a full wash of the bags.

I did one in the bath. Drying also an issue so I would wait for a boiling hot summer's day.

Any hotels/nursing homes etc nearby that might have a big machine?

DidoAtTheLido · 06/09/2020 14:49

Just don't wash it.

I have a once over with baby wipes before I get into my sleeping bag. They are best washed as little as possible to preserve the 'loft'

It is worth waiting until you can take it to a launderette with big enough machines for duvets etc.

Hang it out on a sunny day for a good airing.

Thank you for all the suggestions. I had thought of the bath but then wondered about getting it dry.
SoloMummy, so do caravan parks have the bigger machines? Admit I’ve never looked as never needed to do a wash when we’ve been away. I realise I should have used a liner. It isn’t too dirty, just around the top edge & a mucky patches on the outside where my little dog has snuggled down with me overnight, so may start by scrubbing those parts & hang outside on a sunny day, if we ever get one!

Oh, just gently sponge the mucky bits.

We have a big double Vango one and usually take it to the launderette - they have much bigger machines. I do it on a sunny day and take it home to dry on the line.
