We have never gone camping before and we're thinking of going this July or August.

DS is 5 years old and DD is 3.

Any recommendations?? I've no idea where to start looking. Only site I know is Euro Camps?

Abroad or here?

Do you have any equipment?

What level of comfort do you want? Electric hook up? Near shops? Entertainment?

First of all, you need to decide whether you’re flying or driving. If you decide to fly, then decide whether you‘ll hire a car or not. If you don’t want to hire a car, you’ll need to find a campsite which does airport transfers, or else a site which can be reached with public transport. There are plenty of both.
If you’re driving, decide how far you’re prepared to travel. I’m guessing the answer would be not very far, considering that ages of your dc. Don’t worry, you still have lots of sites in France and the Netherlands within easy reach of the main ports.
You then need to decide what facilities you want. Do you want to cook every day? Or would you prefer to have a restaurant handy? Do you want/need child care? Would you like bike hire? Beach?
Also consider how tolerant you would be of a really busy Brits-aboard style site with all the bells and whistles (which inevitably includes cheesy entertainment and karaoke) or whether you’d prefer a smaller, quieter site.
Hopefully this will help you narrow things down.

Lots of advice here www.ukcampsite.co.uk/

There are other companies as well as Eurocamp: www.vacansoleil.co.uk/

Try going with friends, make a list of kit and then hunt it all down gradually. Borrow a tent. Buy secondhand. Wait for Aldi camping week. Try the back garden first. Find a really local site and go for a weekend when the weather forecast is good.

If you want to try France then this place might be a good place to start as it's only an hour from Calais: www.yellohvillage.co.uk/camping/domaine_de_drancourt

There are many many other great options in France. We usually do a couple of weekends in the UK in our own tent and then a couple of weeks in France in a ready tent or a mobile home.

Good luck!
