Anything wrong with the Vango Diablo 600?

We're trialling camping this weekend, if all goes o.k. would like to upgrade to one of these with the sales on at the moment. There's the two of us and two week kiddies (3 and 1), didn't seem too big, like the sewn in groundsheet and porch area, and the ventilation through the tent, and the biggish living area, anything we should know about??

We have one, and although I love it as a tent (really roomy, great porch etc.) - we've been turned away from loads of campsites because it takes up so much room!

We have to book everywhere we go, and have often had to pay for 2 pitches because of the sheer size of it - it needs a 7m x 7m area to put it up in ...

We've been pleased with ours, plenty of room and fantastic in bad weather but it does need quite a bit of space. We were going to a site that had 7mx7m pitches and weren't sure it would fit so I emailed Vango to ask. They said it was 575cm at longest point and 810cm at widest so we didn't chance it and went somewhere else instead. It doesn't bother us because we tend to avoid the 'regimented' type of sites and wouldn't set off without being booked in somewhere anyway.

We have the very similar but smaller Diablo 400, and really like it. We have 3 children but find the 400 plenty big enough for us - but I think we're in a minority among tent-buyers, we don't want an enormous tent which takes longer to put up and down and is harder to find a space for.

oh tiredemma, we have been looking at the diablo 900. any pros or cons? we have never ever camped as a family and now we can afford to get a really nice and spacious tent. would you recommend it? how long does it take to put up?

tbh- as long as there are two adults to put it up, its not that bad. It is massive- first time we put it up it took about an hour but its much easier now.

We really wanted the space, I hate being all couped up. there are only 4 of us but the extra space is fab ( we have also taken a couple of childless friends away and all stayed in together- it was fab)

No cons really, We have had no problems with it.

We have just been away in our Diablo 600 for the first time. It was great, with lots of space for us all (me, DH and two dses 3 and 5). However, it was very muddy when we arrived and did hose down for the first couple of days and we did have some mud seeping up through the seams. The weather conditions were exceptionally bad though and DH has now taped over the seams. I'm not sure if this is a design fault, our tent was dodgy (bought off ebay in immaculate condition) or what really.

Urgent advice please. Going away this wkend in Vango Diablo 600. Due to crap summer this evening was first time we could practice putting it up. 1hour 45 mins later it was going dark and we still couldn't work out how to put the porch up and the instructions were useless. Can anyone tell me how?!!!

We put our Vango Diablo 600 up for the first time a couple of weeks ago so I'm trying to remember how we did the porch! I don't recall it being particularly difficult except we had to unpeg it and move it over because we only found it wasn't straight when we tried to put the groundsheet in it. Next time we are going to lay the groundsheet out first so that we know we are pegging it all out in the right place (handy tip there!). I don't know if this is any help.

The porch poles are the ones that look like they are bent at odd angles btw.
I was dreading putting our tent up (you are right, the instructions are useless) but in the event it wasn't too bad (about an hour to get main part up and then 1/2 hr pegging out) and I think we will find it quite simple next time, now we know what we are supposed to be doing.

Have you checked out the Vango website jbabe?

try here they give you a video of how to pitch the tent - might just solve your crisis!

After starting this thread weeks ago we finally bought one today, got it from the Millets Oxford Tent Show (last day today) for the bargain (i think) price of £100 (ex-display and had to take it down ourselves), I think it may be last years model but should be great for us first timers to camping with too wee ones. Thanks all.

Bargain! Our first tent was ex-display as well. I think having to take it down ourselves helped really as the bits at least looked familiar when we had to put it up again!
