no point having one unless you're going to run stuff of it
so it'd mean taking/buying/hiring a fridge, kettle, lights, toaster, telly, whatever.

If you normally cope ok without and have shops nearby to keep topped up with milk etc why bother?

Tigana · 13/08/2007 16:50

Worth it when it is 30plus in the shade and the water straight from the water container comes out hot enough to do the washing up!

Worth it when it drops to 5degrees over night and no matter how many layers you put on you still can't sleep for the cold.

Beware if you lean towards minimalist cmaping though, this can be a slippery slope towards lightbulbs, televisions etc

Bugger it - take EHU AND the kitchen sink... it's what I do

(I have a folding camper though, comes with kitchen sink as standard... I don't do camping light!)

oh arse! the trouble is we are light campers by nature. it would be nice to have a fridge and a proper light (and i suspect the main reason is so i can run my epilator!) but not sure if i can bear having all the paraphelalia (sp?)

Can't beat the heat from an electric fan heater

Sheherazadethegoat · 13/08/2007 16:55

sallystrawberry, you sound as torn as me!

OP posts:
MrsBadger · 13/08/2007 16:55

could you hire paraphenalia (ie fridge and light) there? some sites do do this...

Sheherazadethegoat · 13/08/2007 16:55

the heat thing doesn't bother me, i belong to the stuff and nonsense put on another jumper school.

waxing isn't v. practical. i might have to resort to shaving. normall i save all my hair up and get a good wax before i go away but couldn't bear it this time.

we got the fridge last year and I LOVE IT. We only have a fridge and lights but it does make a huge difference to a weeks worth of camping. we only shop a couple of times and packets of stuff stay fresh. also cold drinks are nicer :O

However we used it in the UK a week or so ago and wanted to go back to non electric. or I'll run my fridge off gas as I hated being stuck between tin cans

Troutpout · 13/08/2007 21:29

i like it...resisted for a bit but..
We use it for fridge, phone re-charging(barely use it anyway but just so we can)....and fan heater
i refuse to use an electric kettle..and bugger me, part of the reason i like to camp is to get away from the friggin tv..
But the heater (which is a recent purchase) was really good...and i love my fridge

Surfermum · 13/08/2007 21:39

We gave in and got one this year and it was a total godsend. I got one as I wanted to have a fridge, having got fed up with the swapping of cool blocks thing.

We went for a fortnight this year to Cornwall and it was just brilliant. Kept the wine nice and chilled, chocolate didn't melt and the milk and butter and sandwich fillings didn't go off.

We threw in a fan heater at the last minute as the weather had been so awful, and that was good as the evenings were chilly.

Other than that the only thing we used it for was charging the mobile phone and the lantern.

Oh and a radio for the surf report.

Get one. I'd highly recommend it. We did go for the £60 in a box one as I didn't want any accidents.

Surfermum · 13/08/2007 21:40

And if you search the archives you'll find that I've previously posted that elastic trickery isn't proper camping.

RubberDuck · 13/08/2007 22:14

Yeah, we ban TV and computers. But I do like my fridge. And my heater. And the kitchen sink, oven, grill and hob...

RubberDuck · 13/08/2007 22:14

Did I mention my sink has hot water?
