Camping in south west France

Looking at campsites in south west and around Bordeaux.

Anyone got any top recommendations- probably with eurocamp as like the flexibility? But open to other options. I'd like to be within walking or cycling distance of beach and town.

Also has anyone got the ferry to Bilbao campared to driving down from st Malo. We live north midlands so have a reasonable drive this side before we start.

Thoughts and recommendations appreciated.

I have taken the ferry to Santander from Portsmouth. It was very convenient and northern Spain is lovely. Biarritz is only 2h45 from there and is a lovely part of the world. We stayed in Illbarritz Yelloh campsite which was great, it's about 4km from Biarritz centre but you can walk mostly along stunning beaches to get there or there is a free (campsite give passes) or almost free (€1.20 for 24 hrs) bus outside the campsite. There is a huge Intermarche next to it and restaurants scattered around within walking distance. There is another campsite across the road right on the beach but I can't remember the name. We also stayed in La Sylvamar, Hossegar (also Yelloh but very big and busy. I didnt like it so much) and the Yelloh campsite in Lacanau Ocean which we liked too but was a Looooong way from everywhere. If I had to go back to one I'd go to Biarritz and take the ferry so I didnt have to drive so much. It's a short trip into the mountains and down the coast to St Jean de Luz and San Sebastian so no end of things to do, plus every beach has lifeguards and great waves.

Le Village Western is a small quirky Eurocamp site with a mild Wild West theme. It’s within walking distance of a town and a very short drive to the beach. The beaches in that area didn’t feel crowded, even at the height of summer and we had plenty of space and privacy on the campsite too. In the swimming barn there’s a great exercise pool that's just perfect for swimming lengths, as well as a jacuzzi pool and massage jets. Outside there's a lovely family pool.
