campsite recomendations for tent please... scenic/ room for kids to play / stream?

Hi, can anyone give me any recomendation s to try... i'm looking to go with a tent, somewhere scenic where it's nice to walk, a stream for the kids to play in would be great........, not cramped site, showers etc. Looked at the 'roundhill' site, but no showers, although kids wouldn't really be bothered about that!
We are in the midlands,so not toooo far please - would go to new forest, edge of wales, lake district too far for a couple/3 days. Thanks

Is the Welsh coast too far - just north of Barmouth? Gorgeous, unpretentious campsite on a farm - three big camping fields, fairly basic toilets/showers and a useful little shop. Stream runs through it to the sea - can walk from your campsite through the farm, over the sand dunes and on to the HUGE sandy beach which stretches as far as the eye can see in each direction! Inland, there is a range of hills/mountains.

The farm is called Rowen Farm and it's in a little village called Tal-y-bont on the Barmouth - Harlech road. I spent all my childhood summers there and went back a couple of years ago - it was still exactly the same. It might be a bit far though...

Aberafon campsite in North Wales was lovely - a little stream running through it and then a pebbly beach. It has its own slipway so in the evenings all the motor boats come out to play - so if you have boys they'll love watching them

Facilities are basic and you have to pay for the showers, but the location makes up for all that and more.

Otherwise, no stream, but Christchurch in the Forest of Dean is lovely and also very near to you. It has a kids playground on site, good shop, immaculate facilities. You see a lot of kids cycling round on the little road round it and is a good place for families, imo.

Am going to the New Forest at the end of August so will let you know what I think then

Is North Somerset too far? You've just described a site that I've been going to since I was a child and I feel deprived if I don't get my 'fix' once a year! There is a gate at the top of the field that gives you access straight into the woods (paths lead up to moors) and yes there is a stream kids can play in. The showers etc are fantastic.

They look nice, but hibby won't go that far. I looked at one in new forest (roundhill), as that is the sort of thing i fancy, but no showers and i have very grubby children - especially with a stream teher! Has anyone been?

Roundhills is very pretty but can be a bit noisy compared to some of the other New Forest sites. Did you look at all of them?

Riverside camping is near to me in Caernarfon and ticks all your boxes

too far - sorry... I'd nbe happy to go, but dh says too far for 3 nigts! What other New Forest sites are nice?
We have been to cotswold view a few times, which is really nice, but I want a change..

Doodle's recommendation is terrific.Just up the road from me.I nearly bought the house opposite.

I'm not ever so bothered about a play area, as long as things for kids to do safely on own (they are 5,7 and 12 - boys - so they do need to be able to have fun!)

Hollands Wood is lovely and it has showers. Ashurst is supposed to be nice too.

Sally - Bracelands is too far from the pain au chocolats for me

Tigi: we're about to go to Holmsley (another Forest Holidays site) in New Forest although I've heard mixed reports about it. I know it's a fairly big site (so extrapolating I'm guessing it might be noisier at night...) but the loos/showers are immaculate. People seem to either love it or hate it.

Green park looked nice too, but that is far too!

I live near the New Forest and Roundhills has always had the reputation for being a bit on the noisy side and it used to be known as a 'bikers' site although that may have changed.

They live a stone's throw from all that stuff Doodle.My kids ride the bronze dog every time we go there.
