Campsite recommendations around Cardigan and Cornwall

After camping in France for a few years, we are going to risk the UK weather next year. We live in the north west so this will be an opportunity to visit some UK campsites that are too far flung for our weekend breaks. So, if you have visited any campsites in Cardigan/Cornwall that you’d wholeheartedly recommend for a family with a campervan and kids aged 10 & 4 I’d really love to hear about them. I’ve spent hours looking online and reading my Cool Camping book, but nothing beats having someone’s opinion who’s actually been there. We need electric hook up and would probably favour medium sized campsites to give the kids chance of making friends, and decent showers and toilets are very important.

It's a good hour from Cardigan Bay and the coast, but have you looked at Fforest Fields? That would suit your DC to a tee and there's a lake for swimming.

We went this year for the first time and were blown away by the area. The site was lovely, friendly and really quiet at night. Highly recommend it.

Thanks BonnesVacances - Fforest fields is on my radar, it does sound lovely! I think we may do a long weekend there next year, but I’m thinking we do want to be coastal(ish) for our main holiday.

Dorset, rather than Cornwall, but we really enjoyed a week at Norden farm, near Wareham this summer. The toilets and showers were great and EHU offered in most of the site. There is a decent onsite shop, farm animals, small playground, and there's a variety of catering vans- pizza, hog roast that visit. Twice, they had bands visit an adjoining field, so campers wandered up with their chairs and sat on bales- quite mellow and low key, all done by 9:30pm.

And there's quite a bit you can get to on public transport, which is handy if you have a campervan- you can walk to Corfe Castle and the village of Wareham from the site; catch the steam train to Swanage with a 10 minutes walk and there's a bus service that goes outside of the site to Swanage, Poole, Lulworth etc.

Loads of lovely beaches and places to visit within 20 or 30 minutes drive- Studland, Poole, Brownsea island, Durdle door and Lulworth, Tyneham, Kimmeridge Bay etc.

And forgot to add- FForest fields would make a lovely 3-4 nighter on the way out or back.

St Tinney Farm is a lovely family orientated site with a heated outdoor pool and games room with pool table, table football, air hockey, WiFi and table tennis table, all of which are free. The shower block has recently been refurbished.

Watergate Bay is another good park. It has a pool, tennis court, playing field, games room and mini skate park with Ramos etc... They have a free minibus giving lifts to the beach.

With boys that age, I’d also consider Widemouth Bay holiday park, which has recently teamed up with Bude Bike Hire and Outdoor Adventure (surfing and coastering sessions).

Little Trevothan on the Lizard in Cornwall. Lovely newly refurbed shower blocks, EHU, free fire pits and BBQ, playing field and play area, games room. Lovely beaches close by. Loved it. The Lizard isn’t too busy even in August.

Not quite Cardigan but close, Pembrokeshire near St David’s is Lleithyr Farm. Close to gorgeous beach of Whitesands with loads of space for kids to play, has a collection of farm animals to look at your little one might like.

Thanks DefConOne, they look great, added to the shortlist!
