Leeds Fest!

Never been camping in my life, so I'm throwing myself in the deep end and camping at Leeds Fest later this month. The tent and airbeds and sleeping bags will be there and set up when we get there, so we're cheating a bit, but does anyone have any essentials I might have forgotten, or general festival tips??

We've got:
Travel stove and solid fuel cubes
Cutlery, plates, cups etc
Earplugs
Portable chargers
Plastic bottles of alcohol!
Baby wipes, clothes etc.

i would also bring:

-toilet rolls (they run out very quickly)
-disposable toilet seat covers
-bumbag for money etc

sleep with valuables in the bottom of your sleeping bag

Antibac hand gel
Big bin bags - good for wearing, sitting on, putting dirty/wet clothes in
Wellies!

Head torch/ some sort of lighting for when you need to go to the toilet in the middle of the night!
Spare toilet roil in case the nearest toilets run out.
Eye mask - if you want to sleep in at all and your tent isn’t blacked out.
Bin bags
Camping chairs or at least something to sit on.
Pegs so that you can hang stuff to dry on your guy ropes.
Dry shampoo
Towel and toiletries bag with hook
Drying up cloth and a little bit of washing up liquid.

Wellies, bum bag and camping chairs are sorted.

I've added bin bags, anti bac gel, toilet roll to the list! Thanks.

Good tip about valuables, thanks. I've booked a locker, I'm assuming they will be safe overnight? Or would you keep bank card etc in the sleeping bag instead?

Don't assume the lockers will be safe. Keep your phone and bank card at least on you at all times. My sleeping bag has a little zip pocket inside for small valuables, or I used to put them in my pillow.
Decent waterproof. If it rains, it's a lifesaver! You might want to consider some kind of makeshift loo if you need the loo in the night. Also they do have a 'female urinal' in the arena where they give you some kind of cardboard contraption, I couldn't bring myself to use it though!
Be prepared for the loos to be a horror show. Loads of loo roll and anti bac stuff. Definitely don't go wearing any maxi dresses etc that could get grim stuff on them!
A really cosy hoodie. If it's sunny in the day it will get cold in the evening while you're watching bands.
Cereal bars, snacks, easy food to carry. Some of the food queues are horrendous.
Finally... Plenty of gin in a tin, glitter for your face and glowsticks if that's your sort of thing! Oxfam used to do facepainting in return for a donation when I used to go and it was great fun. Enjoy!
Oh, and if you have the option it's definitely worth staying sober on the Sunday and going home on the Sunday night. The last night used to be when all the kids who'd just got their gcse results would go around causing chaos. There was no chance of any sleep. I hope that's one part of the festival that's changed.

Thanks Noeyedeerdear, food for thought! We are "glamping" so I'm hoping the extortion price of it will have put the teenagers off and it might not be as rowdy as the general camping areas.. I could be very wrong though!! I can't wait though, I never got to go when I was younger.

“Head torch/ some sort of lighting for when you need to go to the toilet in the middle of the night!”
I would say a small Bucket and a few pedal bin liners each with some cat litter in. You wee in the cat litter, and in the morning the bag goes in the rubbish.

GreyGardens88 · 12/08/2019 22:42

It gets cold during the night so a warm sleeping bag and woollies

I haven't been for a few years but I used to go most years on the trot (when it was good), and it rained every single year without fail

Branleuse · 12/08/2019 22:42

Are you in main campsite or in glamping bit? (Since you mentioned stuff being already set up)

OUwhatnext · 13/08/2019 08:40

Pink moon glamping Branleuse.

Ah just checking as being in a glamping bit means you'll have nice loos, so don't need any gross nighttime toilet tipsWink

I think stuff like those sachets of white instant coffee were a bit of a godsend so you don't need milk, and cereal bars, breakfast biscuits and crisps. Dont bother with stuff to make meals. Most times ive brought stuff to cook its wasted anyway as just buy from the vans.

Dry shampoo, wet wipes, alcohol gel.
