Fair weather campers - lightning

We're due to go camping this weekend, but the weather forecast for where we are going has quite a lot of rain and lightning for 2/3 nights away, plus much of one of our full days there.

I'm a fair weather camper at best and did not enjoy thunderstorms in our tent last year. I lay awake trying to decide if we should all decamp to the car. We are deliberating about whether to ditch the trip or not. We would have wet kit to put away afterwards too.

Should I put on my big girl insulating pants and get over it or should we ditch the trip and have a relaxed weekend at home?

I would personally ditch the trip and stay at home.

But check the weather again tomorrow and it may well have changed.

Thanks. Glad it's not just me who would ditch it. The weather forecast still has quite a lot of lightning, so we aren't going today.

Thunderstorms are not good for camping because of the risk of ground strike/ The electricity can travel 10m I think. Lying on the ground (i.e sleeping in a tent) makes you more vulnerable to ground strike

Thanks - I'm confident that we don't want to sleep in a tent in a thunderstorm again, having read that.

I know! I love thunderstorms and used to think people were v wussy not to want to camp in them. But this and the advice given by this Canadian Gvt to campers had changed my mind. In future I would get in the car if a storm started.
