Lighting in tunnel tent

Just back from our first week away in our Indiana. The only problem we seemed to get was that neither of our two lamps lit the tent up properly at night ie, couldn't see to read etc.

What does anyone use that is useful enough?

We're off again on Friday, so any ideas will be greatfully received.

Thanks

I have a petzl headtorch for night time reading.

Do you have electricity?

We have a bulkhead light with our ehu - lights up half the campsite

or you could try something like this strip light that goes onto your car battery?

We just use one of those car inspection lights from halfords which we attatch to the roof of the tent using the velcro bits which are in the tent, we also have one of these which is very bright but which can be aimed in one direction (bulbs are all on one side iyswim) so can shine towards you but away from the kids if they are asleep.

Thanks for that. I did sit looking at those velcro bits all last week wondering what they were really for . Landed up drying the dc flannels on them.

They will hold the wire of your light perfectly but we do find we need to take a piece of string to tie to the actual light itself to hand it up.

hmm think this will give dh something to research in his "lunch hour" next week . (he is sat now with argos book in hand)

We use those inspection lamps too. We were EHU first-timers last week and a bit of light makes all the difference!

Camping Gaz Lanterns are fantastic. They are a bit hissy and get through a gaz canister quite fast but if you're going to want to sit up and read for a while they are great.

Kbear · 28/07/2007 21:48

But these do get hot and you can burn yourself badly (ask DH!).

WendyWeber · 28/07/2007 21:53

Oh yes, they do. But they do give the best light, and you can turn them up or down depending on how close you're sitting and how much gas you have left. We love them! (We do also have battery lights which are safer but much more expensive to run)

Skribble · 28/07/2007 23:53

LED tent light, we have one similar to this it is light enough to hang up and is supposed to run for ges.

Those wind up torches are brillant for kids and late night readers because you don't have to replace the batteries everytime you fall asleep with it on.
