We are looking at either a 10 or 12 cm self inflating mattress. Is there much noticeable difference between the two? The price jump is massive (100 quid to 230 quid 😳). Both DH and I suffer with hip pain.

Any advice gratefully received!

I would get an old fashioned blow up rubber bed instead (not the plastic ones). Much more comfy for camping.

Thanks iggly.

We've had one of those before when we traveled round Europe on a motorbike (the good old days!). They are still a bit hard on the hips.

We wanted something a bit comfier now.

I used to put a sheepskin underneath a sim for warmth and a bit of padding. They pack up small.

Yes there is. Get the more expensive one or an exped megamat if you can- it is wonderful! I wouldn’t recommend airbeds, so much colder and not comfy.

Air beds give me immediate back ache.

Go to a decent retailer and they will let you try the SIMS. It all depends on your weight, how you like to lie etc. For some the difference will matter, others not.

Oooo the Exped Megamat looks so lovely, but super pricey. Currently camping and laying on our massively uncomfortable aired 😩

Cheaper than a hotel..,, A 10 or 12 cm SIM would also be great.

Iggly · 28/05/2019 17:56

The one I have doesn’t give me bad hips - I inflate it to my preferred softness - but with SIMs I do!

Iggly · 28/05/2019 17:57

I have a single of these for camping much better than cheap airbeds
