Reasonably sized family tent. Outwell Montana too big?

We need a decent tent for us to use as a family...2 adults, 2 kids and trying to choose one is a minefield! Had almost committed to a second hand Oakwell Montana 6p on gumtree but when I went to book it into our local campsite they said it's too big. So thinking of scrapping that tent and looking at something else.
Budget would be up to £500 but happy to buy a really decent tent second hand. Please tell me about your fabulous family tents!

Hmm I’d probably choose a different campsite tbh. The outwell isn’t that big and I’d prefer a roomy tent than a smaller one just to fit one campsite stingy restrictions.

We have an air tent (8 person) one which is massive but lovely.

The Outwell Montana is an incredibly popular tent - any campsite that won't take one is looking for backpackers rather than families. A six berth is the minimum size for a family of 4, if you consider you'll need somewhere to store your clothes, toys, food etc..

We've got a Kampa Croyde 6 now we're a family of 4. When DD1 camped with us, we had a Croyde 8. They are lovely tents but no smaller than the Montana.

Agree with the OPs, look for another campsite.

Outwell Montana is a lovely tent, had one for a couple of seasons. Then upgraded to Bear Lake 6 similar size just polycotton, I adore my BL

Same as PPs, the Montana is the smallest I'd fit four in these days for camping (unless it really was only for sleeping one night, pack up next day)

Thanks everyone for the feedback. We are off to pick up our second hand Montana tomorrow. Hopefully it is in as good nick as it looks from the photos. Can't wait for our first camping adventure! I will be trawling through this board now to look for everyone's top tips !
