Campsite recommendations in England

We are looking for a campsite within a couple of hours drive of London suitable for families and near the coast (maximum 30 minute drive from a beach). Ideally with over 100 tents so there are plenty of other kids to play with. Not worried about facilities/pools/clubhouses etc but would prefer nice showers and fire pits but not essential. Some toilets and showers are essential though.

The main issue is we need a huge pitch. Happy to pay for 2 pitches if necessary but we need the 2 pitches open without path/hedge in order to fit the tent. Unfortunately the size of pitch discounts most sites especially when booking this late for 2 weeks in August. Last year we ended up very remote and too far to visit the beach which we don't want to repeat.

happy jakes campsite in barry is a 3 hour drive from london but its very close to the beach and has a park for the kids. it also has level ground for pitching etc.

sorry I saw you said in England! it is only a 3 hour drive so might be worth considering anyway?

Thank you. I will look at it. However we went to Wales last year on recommendation of this group and it was 10oC colder than London and incredibly remote hence initial reaction to discount Wales this year! However your suggestion is much closer to beach and life other than sheep.

Stubcroft Farm in E Sussex has extra large pitches, allows campfires and is within walking distance of the coast. It has recently got a new amenity block.
Fairfields Farm is also worth looking at.

Ricekrispie - thanks for this. They both look good but perhaps too small - as they appear to only have about 50 pitches which we find doesn't give enough options for friends for the kids and that is the only reason we camp in the uk. I will ring to confirm.

Maybe not 100 tents but kids make friends by the rope swings
Secret Pop Up by the River (ditto£

Ricekrispie - have you stayed at stubcrofts? Apparently they are about 100 pitches so could be an option. Anyone else?

Beech Estate Campsite in Sussex is perfect for this. It's a huge site with hundreds of acres of woods, they have large pitches for bigger tents or groups and allow campfires. I think it's around 30 minutes from the beach and lots of other cool attractions nearby too. Hope that one is a good option for you!

www.kingsdowncamping.co.uk/ it's lovely, near Dover (can see France from there and phone picks up French mobile networks).

It's on the top of a cliff, has fire pits, lovely pubs in the village and it's own path to the beach
