... I am thinking of taking our bikes with us. Assuming there are no railings to chain them too, how do I stop them getting nicked? Chain together and leave by tent? What do other people do?

Most campsites even if it’s by reception have somewhere to lock bike. If in Doubt contact individual campsite for facilities. Quite often there fencing surround individual pitches to attach a lock to.

I would either

  • lock them to the car (ours are on lockable bike racks)
-put the seats down in the car and pop them in there if it’s big enough
  • chain them together with the front wheels removed and keep the wheels in the tent

We never chain bikes on a campsite... normally we find them reasonably safe for general stuff.

Goposie · 19/04/2019 21:18

Bike rack not lockable. Very small car usually full of camping stuff and not big enough for bikes. So far have stayed on small sites and not seem stands or sheds or suitable fences but I can ask. I should also learn how to take a wheel off!

We have quick release wheels and saddles so easy to do with them!

cushellekoala · 19/04/2019 21:41

We usually lock all of our bikes together or lock to a fence/post by the tent.

I camp (well in a caravan!) for the majority of the summer holidays and I’ve never had a problem with bike thefts.
I chain ours together but I see lots just left outside tents.
Could you put them on your bike carrier on your car?

happyasasandboy · 19/04/2019 21:49

Lock them together next to your car and loop the lock through the wheel (assuming alloy wheels),

InceyWinceyette · 19/04/2019 22:00

Take a long enough chain to go round a tree and through all bikes?

How do you carry your bikes to the furry? Surely you could chain them to your bike carrier?

Lie then inside the front of the tent at night or lean them against chairs.

Look on the front and back of the car as if it has a towing eye you can lock them to this, its a small metal loop sticking out from under the bumper area
