We are a family of 4 (2 boys aged 7 and 10) and regular campers but this will be our first time in France. We would like a smallish site with a few facilities, such as a shop, swimming pool and even a bar/restaurant but without all of the entertainment and business of the larger more commercial sites. Ideally on the coast within reach of the D-Day beaches and within walking distance of a town/village - we like to have an explore in the evenings. Any recommendations would be most gratefully received.

It's a bit different from what you've asked for, but I can highly recommend Chateau Monfreville.

It does have a natural swimming pond, and a hot tub, and it's situated perfectly for so many Normandy attractions, we also went to Mont St. Michel and Cherbourg from here. The entertainment is what you make it- basically we found that the kids on the campsite got together and organised games whilst we had a fire.

There is a shop which is a little bit limited, but supermarkets are within a 10 min drive.

In the summer, the owners organise special food nights- moules and frites, roast chicken and pizza. These are very reasonable, excellent quality and you can bring a bottle. They also deliver a huge range of bread/croissants in the morning. There is a fab ice cream place at the factory in Isigny sur mer.

There is no electric at pitch, although you can charge devices at a central point, ad they also have a communal fridge/freezer. You do also have to remember to take your own loo roll which is a pain, but common on many French site.

I want to go back now I've reminisced!

Les Briqueries at Honfleur is lovely. Indoor and outdoor pools, play equipment for the children, pétanque piste, and a restaurant. Beautiful clean shower facilities. Next door to large supermarket. Friendly staff. Well positioned for the Normandy beaches and Honfleur is a lovely town to explore.
