What is the latest time of year you would camp with children? Would you risk it in the middle of September? I’m mainly concerned about being too cold at night.

I’ve not camped with children before but camped with friends in April once and I didn’t sleep at all, I was just so cold!

Ds has camped with Scouts/Explorers in December before and was fine. Just lots of layers/thermals etc.

How old? We give everyone of 9+ the opportunity as long as it isn’t below about -15. But we do check gear and have a hard shelter available just in case.

We usually camp the last week of October. You need good gear though.

You'll be fine in September as long as you have good thermal things. It's unusually cold at the moment, but it'll warm up a bit for the next two weeks.

Ah great, thanks. The dc are quite young (6 and 4) so I don’t think we’ll quite manage December, but hopefully September might be ok for a night then. We have plenty of thermals, sleeping bags etc. Plus a big car so we can take lots of extra blankets just in case!

I usually find sept and Oct milder at night than April and May. It's often a bit cloudier so that helps. We often glamp in Oct but may take the tent this year.

We went in October half term last year. Youngest was 2
