Best fridge??

We've just returned from 2 weeks camping in France. We took an electric coolbox which we have used before, but this was the longest stretch so far and the warmest place.

When it was working it was great. However we had several occasions when it cut out without us realising and we ended up with lukewarm food and drinks, and had to throw away some milk and pate to be safe..

Needless to say I wouldn't trust it again so need an alternative. The French site do hire out fridges which is a possibility, but this would work out most expensive. I've seen a little counter top fridge in Argos but it's a bit bigger than the cool box and it's already a struggle to fit everything in the car.

Can anyone recommend something, or indeed shed any light on why our cool box kept stopping? (It was a campingaz one - 12 months old) All connections were fine.

Thanks in advance Smile

I have an Ezetil 3 way fridge that runs on gas or electric. It's a proper fridge rather than a coolbox. I got it on Gumtree for £40 I think. They are a lot more expensive to buy new.

I think plug in coolboxes only cool to 14’ below ambient temperature, which in S Europe summer temperatures in a poly tent might mean not very cold. Did it actually cut out (problems with the EHU supply?) or just not actually cool stuff much?

It went off completely... Initially we thought it was a problem with the one socket on the ehu, but we swopped it and had the same issue a few days later. All the other electrical bits worked consistently.

When it was on and running, it did get pretty cold- it even chilled room temperature stuff well.

Must be a fault with the actual box- will go back to go outdoors and see what they suggest. In the meantime any other recommendations welcome!!
