Hammocky beds in campervans

Does anyone know anywhere I can buy one? Or a site with 'make it yourself' instructions?

You know, the ones with a pole down either side of a bit of heavy fabric which hang above the seats to form beds...we have one pole and no fabric. DH reckons I can whip one up on my sewing machine in seconds .

The material you would need would probably be too think and would blow up your sewing machine - suggest you take it to a tailor who will have an industrial machine. Should be able to run you up some hems no problem.

Wah, memories of my childhood, laying in the hammock in my parent's camper van all the way to Scotland. Bliss.

ooh hang on I've seen one recently in a copy of House Beautiful I think!

I'll have a rummage and get back to you, although it may have been more the stringy sort....

Lucycat · 05/06/2007 16:52

ok so Habitat do a string one in vibrant pink, orange or blue for £14, or John Lewis do one for £40.

Have you looked at ebay?

Lucycat · 05/06/2007 16:53

How about this one?

I love it!

quadrophenia · 05/06/2007 17:24

quadrophenia · 05/06/2007 17:38

your enthusiasm is admirable Lucycat

cece · 05/06/2007 17:39

I would say you need fabric like deckchair fabric. Where are you ? My dad is an upholsterer

Lucycat · 05/06/2007 17:40

if a little embarrassing at times

y'see campers are a whole different world to my bit of polyester!

quadrophenia · 05/06/2007 17:42

I'm not so sure lucycat, we still have a big bit of polyester too and then a comfortable bed and a fridge and a tv

Tigana · 07/06/2007 11:18

Sorry...had to post and run!
quadrophenia...THAT@S IT!! Thank you!
I had tried to suggest to dh that my domestic machine probably wouldn't cope...but...I suppose it is nice he has such faith in my abilities!!

we have a tent too! With the 3 of us, plus 2 dogs and all the tents etc we ended up taking a van to go camping anyway...so now we sleep in the tent unless it is just for one night.
