Getting it all in the car?

We're going camping tomorrow. We've been a few times before, once with an old tent (which leaked and was a disaster) and once last year with our airbeam, but with 2 cars because dh had to come home to work part way through.

We got an astra estate, so not a tiny car, but I'm struggling to squeeze it all in! It's packed to the rafters and I've still got to squeeze in the towels and pillows. And dd's duvet!

How do other people manage?

First step is to buy a roof box. Second step is to buy a trailer

Roofbox. We've got an older Outwell with steel poles and two kids (3.5 years and 9 months) and our estate has one of the largest boots on the market (Skoda) but we still need a roof box! 😄

I'm tempted to jettison the children this year!

Obviously that's not an option but they do take up a lot of space. We had a huge estate car last year and once everything was packed we could barely breathe. This year our new car is much smaller so I think we'll need a roof box.

We thin down to one camping rucksack per person and a plastic box for the tent and communal stuff

The chairs and the SIMs take up the most space after the tent. I think we can do it. The kids might have to sit with the crockery on their laps though!

We just take both cars, one with a roofbox. It's easier than trying to squeeze it all in one car, I'm sure it's nicer for the DC not to be cramped and it's definitely safer to have two well loaded cars than one over loaded. I put all of the bedding in vacuum bags (they came with a hand pump so no need to take the actual vacuum!) to save some space. I buy food when we get there and just take the minimum for the first 24 hours food.

We did previously have a trailer but now I've got a company car, I can't add a tow bar.

Kids sit on pillows. Smallest has the ice box under her feet. Play Tetris a few times on your phone and remind yourself of how to squeeze stuff in to small places!

I’ve got a bell tent, food box, big plastic equipment box, two tables, 4 chairs, 3 sims, 1 campbed, stove, gas bottle, 4 sleeping bags and a rucksack apiece in my mondeo boot!
