OK campers, who else has come home early and is thinking of ebay-ing all their camping gear?

I've never had such a wet weekend camping and it was truly horrible. Never again. Kids loved it, I hated it.

Try and convince this fair-weather camper not to e-bay all her stuff.

Never go when the forcast is rubbish!!!! but aw I feel for you, been there done that!

We usually don't go too far, luckily we have local campsites, but please don't get rid of ya stuff yet, let the summer come and go, have a chance to have a fab time, cause you will, I promise!

Bad luck this time!

bonkerz · 27/05/2007 20:28

Im in on this one. Have come home a day early after getting SO cold and SO wet that we couldn't get dry and warm! Kids have ahd a great time and are sound asleep, ME...im sorting thorugh wet washing and have shoved a very wet tent and gazebo into the shed to deal with when its sunny!!!!!

sandyballs · 27/05/2007 20:38

I should have listened when the weather forecast said rain! The problem is you have to pre-book and pre-pay most campsites over bank hols/school hols so you lose money if you don't go.

Bonkerz - my car is still full of wet stuff, can't face it until tomorrow. Worried it will stink a bit though. Will you put your tent up in garden to dry - or can you just dry it in shed/garage. It all seems such hard work at the moment.

will have to borrow neighbours garden to fry tent BUT if nice tuesday or wednesday will take tent onto field and put up cos have to waterproof the zips!!!!!

kate100 · 27/05/2007 21:14

We came home early, but DH and I are experienced campers and we've never been in wind as extreme as this weekend, 2 of our poles are bent Camping is great, I'm sure next time you go it will be great It's fine to dry your tent in the garage, it's onlt to stop it going mouldy.

marymoocow · 27/05/2007 21:18

try not to fry it though lol

marymoocow · 27/05/2007 21:20

seriously though, we are off next weekend for our first adventure. Hope the weather improves a bit.
Our ds is out in this at the moment at a centenary scout camp. Its his first experience in a tent. Hope it hasn't put him off. I'm expecting a seriously soggy son home tomorrow

purpleduck · 27/05/2007 21:29

Sandyballs, i was just about to start the same thread!!! Our new tent leaked!!! Grrr!! When they say "RAIN" you hope that they mean 10 minutes of it, and glorious sunshine the rest of the time!!! Had a lovely saturday though

unknownrebelbang · 27/05/2007 21:35

Saw lots of very went tents this morning (we were in a hotel in the Peaks, lol).

My lads have also been at a Centenery Camp and they've had a great time, but the muckier the better (at least for the younger two).

Seriously dont give up just look at forecast next time before you are going and take it from there.

Nemo2007 · 27/05/2007 21:41

Dh philosophical approach is
'thats camping sometimes its great and sometimes it bites oyu in the ass'

We're going to the Hay festival at the weekend, I booked it during that dreamy few weeks of beautiful sunshine (do you remember them?)!
Now I'm thinking, it's too wet and cold but DP and DD have pointed out that I have waterproof clothes and I get to see Monty Don, and will be miserable if we don't go.
I know how miserable I am if I'm cold and wet, I hate rain!
BUT I agree don't give up now. We were camping near Boscastle just before it slipped down the valley, so you can imagine how much rain there was, and yet that's one of the best holidays we ever had.

purpleduck · 27/05/2007 22:09

My friends (the brave little souls who are still there!!!) have a lovely canvas frame tent, all the modcons, and a HEATER !!! you could feel a blast of heat when you walked in!!!

Was doing well until the electric died at Christchurch earlier this evening. Didn't want to risk no heater given the weather forecast for VERY COLD tonight, and came home early.
