Packing List for Deershed

Help! In a moment of madness I agreed with DH we should take the kids (10, 9, 5) to Deershed. Since we moved house 2 weeks ago we are not completely unpacked yet so this weekend I have to find stuff and buy stuff. What do we need? Beyond the tent, sleeping bags, raincoats, sunblock and a load of cash? And my period is due that weekend as well. This could all be a big mistake!

Do you usually camp? Not sure from the post, but we’d need a lot more than just tent and sleeping bags. Roll mats / airbeds, stove, cooking stuff, chairs, table, lantern and torches, the ever useful bucket - we would have a packed car, to be honest!

buckeejit · 12/07/2018 13:22

Wahey! We're going to deershed too, can't wait, it's great!

Also the toilets are cleaned more than other festivals & there's not too much walking.

I'm all about the comfort but it is set to rain & the ground is so hard that it could cause problems. I have puddlesuits for dc & a couple of emergency ponchos for us. A bag of apples & oranges, choc chip brioche & a load of wine & Ill be all set!

buckeejit · 12/07/2018 13:29

Our car will be packed-we're coming from NI too so extra trauma!

I'm filling a big sturdy clear really useful box with water carrier, hammam towel, ear defenders, fairy lights, food, coats etc.

The box will double as a seat & if it's boiling, cold water to keep drinks cool. My back can be problematic so we're taking camp beds, sims & im going to get a good chair tomorrow, as well as taking a few rubbish ones & a picnic blanket.

A few bin bags are useful, but as long as you can sleep ok, everything else will be there. Just remembered I should pack some glow sticks for dc for night time fun.

We're going too, it's our fourth time! Don't bother with too much food, the food stalls are amazing! We're just taking mini cereal boxes, milk, croissants, crisps, biscuits, juice, cider and wine! We spend very little time at the campsite so travel pretty light. We take a trolley for the youngest (5) to sleep in when it gets late, just fill it with cushions and a blanket and we put our camping chairs in it too.

buckeejit · 16/07/2018 22:23

@2ManyDicksOnTheDancefloor we just bought a trolley yesterday, I'm excited to use it. We've used Mr Trolley before but it's a bit expensive & I've invested in a bigger tent, some sturdy bed& chairs this year as have a bad back so will be helpful!

Fingers crossed it might not rain?! Any recommendations for must see acts? I've only listened to the playlist once! Dd wants to go to singalong Moana 😃

We are going too..can't wait it's a first festival with our four year old twins. Just a quick question for you experienced festival goers. We were going to take our cycle trailer that doubles as a massive tank of a buggy instead of a trolley do you think that would work fine?!?! I have fairy lights and wine so otherwise sorted!!!

Any recommendations for must see acts?

I saw Goat Girl on Later... a few weeks ago and thought they looked rather fab so will be checking them out.

Spent a small fortune at GoOutdoors at the weekend and now have a 6 berth tent (eek!) plus various essentials from the 'camping list' threads. DH put it up in the garden with the kids which took ages due to kids fighting while they put it up. Hopefully this will make them a bit better behaved on Friday, either that or we'll be the large tent with a no-man zone around it due to no-one else wanting to be anywhere near this horrendous grumpy family.

Glad to see you say the food is good since we decided to assume we'd need breakfast stuff only and have gone minimal on the 'kitchen essentials'. Suspect DS (5) will live on sausages all weekend but we're all off work on Monday to recover so I'll stuff him full of fruit and veg then!

Our new 6 berth took ages due to me & dh fighting! We got the voyager eclipse & I like it. Roomy! What did you get?

Morrisey & Marshall sounds good, as do dreamwife & I like Joan as Policewoman. Will listen to the playlist over the next few days.

Our staples are chic chip brioche, granola, yogurt, crisps & wine!

2ManyDicksOnTheDancefloor · 17/07/2018 11:50

Katycb- the bolide trailer will be fine, I've seen others with him.

Unfortunately, goat girl are no longer playing! We're a bit upset about that Angry

I'm looking forward to dream wife, HMLTD, Gaz Coombes, Blenaevon, Slug, Goldfrapp...

Excuse typos!

CountFosco · 17/07/2018 19:22

buckeejit cheap and cheerful!

Upset about Goat Girl. I'm also looking forward to the yoga. DD1 is delighted because she found out today one of her best friends is going as well (plus a boy in her class but that's not so exciting!).

Looks good Count! Big buggy is a great idea. I've booked myself in for a massage for Friday after tent erection 😁

CountFosco · 22/07/2018 20:00

We're home! Had the best time (even though we saw hardly any music) and the kids want to go back next year. We spent a lot of time in the comedy tent and Rachel Parris was a particular highlight.

I think festivals are mostly for missing out on music 😂. We saw quite a bit & had a great time too. Best weather helped (apart from Fri avo). Wish we could do it again this weekend, there's not enough time to do all the workshops etc. Interactive theatre was great!

CountFosco · 24/07/2018 20:18

Yes, we were putting the tent up as the heavens opened. Nice people in the next tent helped us put it up and the kids became friends for the weekend which was lovely.

Didn't see any of the theatre but I did 2 hours of yoga on the Saturday, the early morning session and then the kids session with DD1 and DS which was much harder work! DS (who is 5) thought it was amazing though. Agree I could do it all again but this time we'd spend some time in Wilderwild, sign up early for the science sessions, see some theatre and chill out to the music on Sunday afternoon.
