We haven't been camping for a very long time but will be off for a week this summer. What does everyone do with all their stuff when going out for day? (clothes, valuables etc)?

Valuables come with us, everything else stays in the tent. Tbh we don't take much of value - phones and an ancient ipad maybe.

We've done many camping nights and days out without incident.

Also can buy padlocks for zips on tents.

When we camped, everything in tent, valuables in car. But that is partly the reason we ended up buying a caravan (apart from getting wet!)

I wouldn’t padlock a tent. It makes it look like there’s something worth stealing in there. Chances are that the tent is more expensive than anything you’ve left in it so if someone slashed your tent to get in it will be worse than if they just looked and saw there was nothing worth taking.

Valuables stay in car or with you,
try not to worry about anything else, it’s pretty unusual to have anything stolen in my experience.

Take valuables with you or lock them in car. We have a "go bag" - everything valuable in the bag, in the car before we leave tent unattended.
I wouldn't use a padlock as it looks like you have left something in the tent- it would also be quicker to open tent with a blade instead if they wanted to get in.

Valuables go in the boot of the car, and everything else just stays in the tent.
It helps to make friends with the people around you and keep an eye on each other.
