We have been thinking about going camping with 2dds (5 and 3). I haven't been camping for about 15 years and even then it was around europe back-packing with friend/boyfriend etc. I am a bit uncertain of what it will be like with as a family children. I have to admit in recent years I am a bit of a fair-weather outdoor person.

I am wondering if it is going to a lot of hard work only to get cold wet and having children saying they are bored! On the other hand I think we cold have loads on fun in a simple way.

Have you recently been converted to camping? What were your reservations and did they go unfounded?

I am also a bit concerned about spending a couple of hundred pounds on a tent/equipment and only using it once. Any advice on tents/necessary equipment would be useful.

I was 11wks pg with pro-active morning sickness and camped with DH and 1yr old DD at a cloth nappy conference with composting toilets and unnecessarily revolting vegetarian food. After that I felt I could handle anything!

i was also pregnant when i went camping for the first time - 3 mths with number 3 and had morning sickness. But loved it!!

we'd also just brought at huge family tent and was putting it up for the first time so obviously it was windy. it also rained during the night but none of got wet.

it was great, really good fun. we stayed in a campsite only an hours drive from home and allowed campfires. it was also on the edge of a forest. the people in the next tent had a child the same age as dd1 so they went exploring loads. the kids absolutely loved it - all the space to run around and explore. they took us in really - fed us, shared their fire with us. i dont think i would have enjoyed it as much if it werent for them.

now i am converted and our only holidays this year are camping trips with friends. have the read of the guarian camping guide as well :-))
