Recharging phones

I hope this is ok to post here, I figure people here have most experience!

DH's phone battery lasts a day, if that. He often goes off hiking or biking alone and I'd like to get him a mini hand-held charger. He probably would be totally against the idea so it would need to be small and light. Something only for emergencies. I've seen loads of secondary battery packs around, but I don't think he would agree to one of those as he'd have to remember to charge it all the time. Any suggestions of small, light hand chargers or (solar ones - he sometimes goes out photographing at night, so this wouldn't be much use then I assume!) that could go into his bag and be forgotten about until he needs it?

Afraid, I only know about battery ones. But one tip I have discovered, if I need my phone battery to last a bit more is to turn off roaming data. It's incredible how much that uses up. You can still turn data on/off as you need it to access the internet etc but just don't leave it going.

I've used solar ones. Either stick on the top of the tent/car for the day, or attach it to your bag to charge.
You can charge them via USB before you go, so use as a back up charger too. Some of them will recharge your phone 2 or 3 times from a full charge.

This is similar to the one I have.

Get him a simple cheap payg phone with a long battery life that can only make calls text.

I've got a pebble charged for my phone and it will charge it at least twice before needing topping up, some of them charge more depending on how much you want to pay.
