Camping with a 2yo...

Hello lovely mumsnetters!

My husband and I camped pre-small person but haven't since. DS isn't the best at sleep and I worry about waking the whole campsite at 5.30am...

But, to my question...what do they sleep in? We have air mattresses and toddler sleeping bags (gro bag type) but is this ok? Are we better with the air bed/sleeping bag combos the likes of Go Outdoors sell? He wriggles around so I worry about the cold if he's not wrapped up. We're hoping for a weekend or two away this summer so just trying to be prepared!

TIA. fx

P.S. if I get him off site at wake up I can get away with 5.30-6am, yes?!

At that age we bought our kids junior sleeping bags and also added a fleece blanket above and below. With thick pjs they were fine in a British summer!

Mine wear thermals, pjs and a onesie unless it is really warm. Plus duvet. Self inflating mattresses are the warmest thing I have found to sleep on so I would invest in one of those. Or a travel cot if they still fit in one. Lots of people with small children are up at 6 on sites so I wouldn’t worry. Just try to keep it down and no-one will mind.

We started family camping last year when our youngest was 1. She sleeps on a single air bed with a child-size sleeping bag and wearing a fleecy onesie. She’s not a good sleeper by nature, but actually sleeps better when camping. It’s probably the fresh air, busy days and later bedtime!

Blush totally didn't register your helpful replies Blush

Thank you!! You've echoed more or less what I was thinking. I'll invest in some thermals and take him to go outdoors to familiarise himself with play in the tents! Really hoping we can get away for a few nights, even if we're just up the road!
