Which camping guide would you recommend - one for the UK and the other for France? I'm looking for something I can wade though and then research further online. Any ideas anyone please?

OK
agree with MB and Lucy about ukcampsite.co.uk
Use in conjunction with the Alan Rogers guide
or the Best of British website (bob.co.uk)
If in France look into Camping cheque sites, off peak discounts at top sites.
Just about every guide costs £ to get in, so the bigger the ad often indicates how large the parks need for customers is!!
