Electric?

can anybody who has electric hook up give me some advice please

we are thinking about investing in a hook up intime for our nxt trip (mayday bank hol)
can you use any electric item into as you would at home ie kettle or do you need a paticular kind

(sorry if this seems really blonde but don't want to blow the supply on the site)

This depends on the sockets at the end of the electric hook up. If you buy one with a EU socket (BIG BLUE SOCKET) you will need an adaptor. You can get electic hook ups with normal 13amp sockets, just remember that this end is not normally water proof and needs to be inside the tent.

Our EHU is fitted with a water proof 16amp EU plug and a set off 13 amp socket at the other end. This means we can use any domestic household appliance on it, as long as socket end is inside tent.

Oh Peachy - I was thinking how incredibly clever and clued up at camping you sounded then you spoiled it with your last sentence

We got one at Camperlands - very good price - we run the electric cool box and a light from it.

This one - 3 sockets and a free bag

We use normal household stuff on ours - TV and PS2 Ok, it ruddy buckets down with rain every sodding time we go.

LOL bar the electrics I taught him all he knows about camping!

Dh recommends this : the sunncamp main s 3 plug one (the orange one).

When it says RCD, it is to ensure that if there is a problem with the electricity (and something comes live) the RCD will turn off the electricity

Don't buy one off ebay, although they are much cheaper than the camping shops, many have blue cables and the campsites won't let you use them. You do need a properly earthed and protected one.

I'd advise you not to take your kettle from home as they are usually 2kw, we have a travel (950kw) kettle for that essential early morning cuppa - they coud well blow the camp fuses and you will not be popular!

YOu need a proper EHU. If you take a normal extension lead, you will put yourself at risk of electrocution.

I've used towsure, they are great
