Packing tips!

Hi,

I am a full time lurker, posted a couple of times. Genuinely freaking out about all the stuff I need to pack and squeeze in the car!
Have a roof box so that's positive...

Does anyone have any good tips about packing for hols....my list is never ending and a very impatient husband does not bode well for stress free travel!

Please help!

Put things inside other things, eg fill the wellies with stuff that will fit. Teabags coffee and sugar etc, always went in mine after being of course decanted into smaller containers. Avoid taking unnecessary outer boxes/cases. Towels are useful for stuffing gaps, don't pack them until last. Put sleeping bags on the back seats and make children sit on top of them.

Agree with Alpaca.

In addition, consider using the big supermarket shopping bags rather than cases/holdalls for clothes etc. We have one shopping bag per person with clothes, toiletries and a towel. Much easier to stuff into the footwells of the car and also easier to organise in the tent.

Oh, and once it's all packed make a note of what you have in the roofbox. We now have a routine whereby we know exactly what goes in the roofbox and the order to pack it and the rest is relatively easy.

Make sure the tent and the hammer for its pegs are at the top of the pile of shite. Once tent is up everything else will usually be alright...

System two for very small short people control... DVD player and keep them locked in back of car while erecting tent. System three bring travel cot, erect it and dump them in it.. System four. Bring friend and ask her awfully nicely to take all the children back down to Reception to check out local attractions/pubs/whereabouts and closing times of local shops.
