Tow bars

Looking at getting a tow bar on our car so we can take our bikes camping with us (and opens up the possibility of a trailer for kit in future too Grin)

We have reversing sensors so I don't want anything that will get in the way of those or set those off all the time. I've heard a swan neck one is better for cars with sensors?

And is it worth getting a folding or detachable one, or is that just more to go wrong?

We got a fixed one. It's low enough to be invisible to the reversing cameras (Kia Sorento).

P F Jones did ours. They arrange the fitting as well - on your drive. Worthwhile for convenience especially with all the electronics.

Sorry, I see now you said sensors not cameras. Towbar doesn't affect sensors day to day but you have to turn them off when you're towing anyway.

We've got a detachable tow bar - just prefer the look without and very quick to take on/off.

We paid more for the car specific wiring ring so the car knows you're towing, changes suspension etc and turns off rear sensors.

Company came to our house and fitted. Will try and find who.

Wow, it's a whole new world!

I'll see what the price difference is with detachable, I'm not too keen on having a giant phallus on the back of the car but if it's lots cheaper for fixed I'll learn to cope Wink.

Not sure we'd tow much- don't really have anywhere to keep a trailer and doubt I'd ever find my dream Airstream caravan at a price I could afford!

But towbar bike carriers are by far the best- easier to attach, can lock the bikes on and still have space on the roof bars for the roof box.
