Camping

Our UK Camping forum has all the information you need on finding the right equipment for your tent or caravan.

I haven't camped for decades- army surplus type equipment. I'd like to give my dd a taster by (don't mock too much) camping in our back garden. Kit advice for such a low key start please. Thanks.

I camped with my parents decades ago -dh has never camped - I fancy giving dd (10) a taster but, as we are shocking lightweights, I want to start by camping with dd in our little suburban garden.
I have a new 3 person tent - vango soul 300 whatever that is. I have a sleeping bag for me - it has a cotton lining and I love it to bits despite what must be its great age (35 years?). I think I have a sleeping mat of some kind.
But I'd love your tips on best bags , liners, airbeds, mats. Obviously I don't want super fancy and expensive at this taster stage but not so cheap and nasty that she is put off.
We even have a camp stove that I keep in the garage in case all the gas etc ever goes off in the house. Or I might leave that for another time.
Any tips, recommendations? Thanks.

Decathlon have a good range of basic cheap stuff.

My 10 year old loves her readybed. At that age they need the adult version. At least if it doesn't work out with the camping she can use it for sleepovers etc!

Thanks - I'll take a look.

Yes to Decathlon

Yes to Decathlon but no to the garden. It just doesn't cut it. The call of the TV inside is just too strong. If you've forgotten something you go and get it rather than make do.

Can you not find a very local campsite and do one night?
