.....pool/lake/river swimming
cycle tracks nearby
fishing on site
watersport hire (canoe/windsurf)
no big entertainment on site
not too far from town/village/shop ( cyclable distance)

And max. 7/8 hours from Calais ideally.

Or at least most (or some) of those!

Loved Noirmoutier (indigo site) and Loire (prunay.fr/en/)

Thanks!

are you looking to take your own tent or hire one ?

Les Ranchisses Campsite Largentière in the Ardeche fits a few of your criteria but i think that maybe longer than you want to drive

La Garangeoire in the Vendee again probably fits what your after but we havent been ourselves so cant comment on the quietness of it

Le Château des Marais has direct access to a lake and we went out on bikes a fair amount when there but we did not have the best weather

Le Pin Parasol is also vendee, can get to local town Coex pretty easily and fab lake next to it with lots of trails, rentals etc!

Thank you! I'll look through all those. I've fancied going to the Ardeche for years but there's only me driving and I think that might be pushing it.
We're taking our own tent and I'll book the first week before we go, and the second while we are there so I can see what the weather is doing!

Val de Bonal in Rougemont

There are two sites on Lac de Chalaine which look nice. Doubt you will get a pitch at La Garangoire now.

www.loire-gites.com

Stayed at this site last year. The hosts are really friendly and it's a lovely site. It's in the Loire Valley near to Samuir.

Not everything you suggested is on site, but canoeing etc is nearby on the Loire valley etc.
