Going to France.....Keycamp or French Life ???

I am hoping to book a holiday for around the end of June next year in vendee/charentes.

I've just been on the Keycamp web site and got a quote for 1074 quid for 12 nights from 30th june. Thats for 5 of us in a 2 bed mobile home.
I thought that was pretty good, although we would have to add about another 230 cos we want to travel to a differnt port.
Dp said it was way to much.

I do have a French Life brochure too, and they do seem to be a bit cheaper but are they any good ??

Dp seems to think we are going to get something for nothing.

We went to Brittany last year with French Life and generally I'd say they were very good.

We only had one real problem, which was that when we booked we arranged an extra 2 man tent to be set up for our two boys (thinking they'd enjoy the 'independence' of being outside the main tent). This was offered to us by the agent. Luckily we kept it a surprise for them, as when we got there we were told that French Life don't in fact offer that service!

This year we are going to The Loire with KeyCamp (late August) so will post an update when we return letting you know which was best!

or will that be too late for your decision???

Thanks turnupthebass .

Will be interested to hear your report .

It will be a first trip abroard so i'm abit well alot terrified of getting it wrong.

Slinky · 11/07/2004 00:20

oooh Turnupthebass!! Whereabouts in Loire are you going? We're going to Saumur on 5 August!

LOL at myself and Coddy for "appearing" on every Keycamp posting known to Mumsnet

Slinky · 11/07/2004 00:21

Ooops - sorry nutcracker - meant to say only experience I have is with Keycamp and friends have been with Eurocamp.

Couldn't advise on French Life though - I would hazard a guess and say they were all similar?

nutcracker · 11/07/2004 00:23

cheers.
Dp is just being difficult as usual. He wants to go but doesn't want to pay for it.

The Keycamp ones appealed to me because of the kids clubs and the tumble tots e.t.c.
French life has slightly less to offer in that department i think.

Have to say Keycamp kids clubs are fantastic - very safe/organised and post up "weekly activities" so that the kids can choose whether to go or not (DS1 only liked going if it involved football, cricket, Treasure Hunt or Water Fun )

Keycamp share their Clubs with Eurocamp (sister companies).

nutcracker · 11/07/2004 00:29

Are the kids clubs free, can't remember now ??

OP posts:
Slinky · 11/07/2004 00:35

Yes, they are.

They run twice a day, 6 days a week. Never went to any morning ones as they started at 10am and we never got up until 9.30am every morning

nutcracker · 11/07/2004 00:38

That would be us too

Will have another look and may just book something

Nutty I hope you are getting some really good discounts booking this early. I would go Keycamp as the kids clubs are good and worth it. However they are for 4+ only. Under that you cannot leave them.

lilibet · 11/07/2004 18:58

was a bit puzzled to read turnupthebass's comments as he is coming to France with me and I'm going with Canvas

I've been with nearly all the different companies and there's not much to choose between them. Where in France do you fancy Nutty?
and if dp thinks that is too dear, woudl you not consider a tent. We went in a tent for hte first time last year and it was great - much better than I expected.

Slinky - we are going to Blois on the 17th August - or at least I am, he must have something else planned

codswallop · 11/07/2004 19:05

yes I have bumped up ds2 s age by a month

turnupthebass · 12/07/2004 15:41

All the brochures look the same to me!!
I blame working for exams at same time as holiday being booked.

Sure we'll get there with dp in charge!

mummysurfer · 13/07/2004 23:50

have you looked at Carisma.their sites are right on the beach and mainly in the Vendee and S brittany
we went here last year and found them a lot cheaper than keycamp or Eurocamp
