Trying to France on a shoestring as have the time but not the money this year. (can get do the tunnel on tesco points). Looking for about 12 days away in August. Don't want to drive more than about 7/ 8 hours once we're on the continent.

We can't take our own camping stuff as out car isn't big enough to sustain the long journey, but happy to do pre-pitched. Any recommendations for bargainous places where would get a bit of warmth, not too hot, and lovely countryside for OH to cycle in (mountains preferred).

Thank you

i don't have any recommendations as such but from experience Eurocamp sites can be cheaper going direct to the site, the accommodation does differ slightly but not that much. From memory i think lifestyle holidays and happy camp are slightly cheaper versions to Eurocamp style holidays or they were when we looked a few years back, but i am not sure on the site locations

Ah great hands not heard of them will investigate. I was just looking at some on vacansoleil and trying to compare prices booking direct with the site, however my French isn't good enough to understand the complex booking info!

Charisma holidays and Matthew france may be worth looking at too, are you after any particular facilities on site ? i seem to find with the larger sites that there are so many different operators there, so it may be easy to find a site you like then look into best deal

Look at castel sites?? Loire and south Brittany should be warm (not hot) lots of cycling but not v mountainous!

Thanks both.
In terms of facilities - don't need discos and entertainment. Maybe a shop and a pool.
I would like access to the sea /river/lake for swimming.

Try the Ardeche-really beautiful landscape, hilly, lots of rivers and gorges. We are going on a Eurocamp holiday there next week and I can't wait!!

Can't vouch for availability, but we stayed at this place on the banks of the Tarn. They have cabins rather than pre-pitched tents, but the location was wonderful, there would be plenty of great cycling around there (not to mention canoeing etc.), and there was a shop and a friendly bar/bistro (no discos or rubbish like that).

Good luck in your search.
