washing sleeping bags

so... we go camping at least once a year, often a long weekend thrown in if the weather is reasonable.

so far I have always washed the sleeping bags before storing away as hated the musty smell from when I was a kid (the bags were never washed). but as we are away for half term and plan a couple more short trips away I'm thinking of only washing them after the summer.

wdyd?

I would wash once a year but might consider washing them just before the first trip away so you get that fresh washed smell after they've been stored in the loft?

We give ours a really good airing on the washing line between uses/washes, unzip them as far as possible and choose a sunny, breezy day, they are never musty when we get them out again.

I guess I have only the baselines of musty/smelly or washed.

but it looks like I need to wash this time anyway as we had quite some rain today and everything is muddy Confused
