Overnight stopover near Tours

We'll be travelling to the Dordogne and are looking for a nice campsite around Tours for a 1 night stopover. Thanks!

We stopped over at "camping le rouge gorge" near cholet last year, nor sure if it's going to take you to far out of your way but it was set on the outskirts of a pretty little town and had a lovely park/river nearby - very relaxing. It's also very close the Puy du Fou if you fancy a good day out.

This year we are stopping at least Chataux de leychoisiers near Limoges but that's probably too near to your final destination.

We've just booked Huttopia Saumur for our one night stopover. Never stayed before but looks ok...

We stayed at camping Amboise en route to the Dordogne. It's a municipal site, so very cheap but clean and spacious. It's on an island but a short walk over the bridge is Amboise, with a Chateau, cobbled streets, many restaurants and Patisseries and a Carrefour cite to top up on the essentials.
We will definitely use this site again.

There is a Huttopia site in Le Mans which is lovely & lots of people used as a stopover. WE also stayed at the site in Amboise before kids - but went and looked at it last summer and it is still v nice & has a great pool next door and is right in the centre of town overlooking a chateau.

Huttopia tip- use coolcamping to book. They don't charge booking fees and let you book one night during peak season.

Thank you very much for the recommendations. Amboises looks perfect but unfortunately its fully booked. Milliways, for future reference do you know if this site is accessible with a caravan?

Huttopia Saumur, Puy de Fou and Limoges are out of our way but thanks for the suggestions! Converseandjeans - I can't seem to find the Huttopia site in Le Mans, what is it called? Thanks!

Loads of caravans were there for the whole summer whilst we were there.
They might not be on your route, but other stopovers we have used, both very good, are here at La Flèche and here at Tuffe.

There is a holiday inn 'tours Sud ' just off the motorway. Has family rooms, does dinner and buffet breakfast and has a pool in garden. Was cheapish and cheerfulish!!

We stayed at Parc de fierbois just south of tours on our way to the dordogne. It's a big site but we stayed there because it was directly en route and our main site was much smaller.

Where in the dordogne are you going?

The municipal site in Chaumont sur Loire always seems good (we stay over the river in Onzain). Nice village, access to the beach on the river bank. Typical French chateau to look at.

Be wary of municipals if camping...great value but I remember the showers/toilets in chinon with horror...of you have a van you will be fine though!!
