Nice campsite in Devon

I'm looking for recommendations for a campsite in Devon, probably South Devon.

We're spendign a week at Eweleaze in Dorset and then thought we'd go to Devon for a week. Wanted a similar campsite - so no pool, clubhouse, childrens' entertainment, etc. Just nice and peaceful, ideally near the sea or with a stream running through it.

Also in a good area with stuff for kids to do, touristy things in the day.

I'm sure someone will kow somewhere.
thanks

Sorry, I always say this: www.riverdart.co.uk/

It's near Ashburton on the southern fringe of Dartmoor. Now, tbh it does have a bar and a small games room (and a small cafe/restaurant). There's also a pool but it's small and cool, not by any means a water-park set up. BUT the big plus is the river Dart runs along the lower fringe of it and they've created a natural water park, if you like in that there are diverted rivulets, pools with sand baches, a pirate ship you can wade out and onto, big 'woodland' slides, swings and lots of little walks on site as well as, of course, the marvel that is Dartmoor 10 mins drive up the road. There's Totnes and a river trip to the sea (Dartmouth) then a train journey along the coast and open top bus back to Totnes, there's some magnificent beaches 30 mins away (um- Bigbury?) and if the weather's really nasty, both Plymouth (aquarium!) and Exeter aren't that far. The campsite is tents only and the facilities are good and clean.

I should add we took DSs, 4 and 6 (And were with a family with 2 Dss, 5 and 7) and we all had a really good time! The slides and steel cable cobwebs hung in the trees to bounce around on, the 'treetop walk' (perfectly safe) etc did all the tiring out necessary.

Try here

We went last year. Very simple, no pool or entertainment. Small amount of food available at reception plus icepack freezing. Small park for the kids. Only thing that lets it down are the toliets and showers - they're aren't enough of them and it gets busy at peak times in the morning and early evening.

The beach at Dawlish Warren has a hideous Butlins type amusement arcade on it as you get there but don't be put off (as I first was). Go past all that and the busy part of the beach and the Warren itself is absolutely beautiful.

Its about a 15 minute walk down to the beach but there lots of parking if you want to drive down.

Ok not sure why that link won't work. Try here

We also went to a lovely campsite on the North Devon/ Somerset border in exmoor here Really nice but again toilets very basic. Amazing countryside and views - there are 4 guided walks you can do over the farm land. Its about 20 mins from Minehead where there are quite a few things to do (including the dreaded Butlins) but unfortunately if you want a beach thats also the closest one. We loved it so much we're going back again this year.

I have also camped at the River Dart one (a fortnight in August 8yrs ago) and it was fabulous.

Another vote for River Dart Adventures.

Oooooh the River Dart AND the Westermill one both look lovely.

The Dawlish one, the campsite looks nice - but I don't think the location is as good for stuff we want to do.

Thanks guys. Have 2 to choose from now

How about Dornafield near Totnes we're going for 10 days to recover after Newquay

Check out the reviews on ukcampsite, they are among the best i have ever seen!

Hi This is not in Devon but for all campers out there with children, I have found the perfect campsite. It is a bout 10 miles out of Bath and is called Brokers Wood www.brokerswood.co.uk It is amazing. It is in a huge wood with fun play equiptment for the kids every so often but this does not spoil its natural beauty and calm. It also has a mini shop, does food, has amazing toilet and shower/bath room facilities. There is loads to do in this area as well being only 10 mins to Bath or half an hour to Bristol. It would take you 2hrs from Dorset.

It's North Devon, but this campsite is lovely. It has no stream but a little playground and plenty of speace to run around.

www.bayviewfarm.co.uk/

It's just near Croyde beach, which is very surfy, but there's Putsborough beach just over the headland which is really great. Lots of rockpools and a place to buy ice creams, oh, and toilets.

Lots of things nearby for rainy/non-beach days. Dartmoor zoo is very cute and Ilfracombe has nice little acquarium and boat trips.

North Morte Farm . It is in North Devon and we stayed in a caravan when we went last year, but the campsite looked fab and we may take the tent there this year. Has a nice playground, small shop, is close to the beach (steep walk down, but close) and is near to a village with two or three pubs - and a great fish restaurant in a house just down the road!
